2013 TRACK RESULTS

GIRLS AAAAA STATE MEET: MAY 9-11, ALBANY, GA

Congratulations to the Pope Girls who finished 8th overall (out of 45 AAAAA teams in the state)!

Andrea Vahoua finished in 2nd place in the Discus, and 3rd place in the Shot Put!

Athena Carpenter finished 4th in the 100m Hurdles and in 14th place in the Triple Jump.

Ali Moxley finished 6th in the Pole Vault.

Ashley Kehoe placed 11th in both the 1600m and 3200m runs.

Morgan Laushey placed 13th in the 1600m run.

Layne Hagy placed 15th in the Discus throw.

Allison Anzelmo placed 16th in the 800m race.

BOYS AAAAA STATE MEET: MAY 2-4, JEFFERSON, GA

Congratulations to Patrick Fleming, who repeated as AAAAA 1600m State Champion with a time of 4:15:58!

Braxton Phipps also scored points for Pope by placing 8th in the Triple Jump.

Gunnar Stormark finished in 15th place in the 1600m, and Sean Hayden finished 13th in the Shot Put.

In Day 2 action, Patrick Fleming qualified for the finals by placing 1st in the 800m preliminaries. Gunnar Stormark placed 12th in the 800m. In the 3200m run, Muhammad Elosta placed 14th, and Steven York placed 15th.

On Day 3, Patrick Fleming finished 3rd overall in the 800m finals.

Pope Boys finished 14th overall (out of 46 AAAAA teams in the state). Congratulations on a wonderful season!

POPE BOYS AND GIRLS ARE REGION 7-AAAAA CHAMPIONS!

The Hounds finished the job they started at Wednesday's prelims, with several successful finals resulting in a first place finish for the boys team (142 points), and a first place tie with Kell for the girls (117.5 points). What a great way to continue the season and realize a team goal that was set in January!

Pope was the only AAAAA team in Georgia to have both boys and girls score in every event final in a region meet!

The Pope team started spring break off with some great competition at the Friday Night Lights Invitational. In a strong field of 25+ teams from the metro area, the girls team finished in 7th place overall, and the boys team finished in 10th place overall.

COBB COUNTY JV MEET: 4/3

What a night! Neither rain, nor cold, nor wind, nor a compressed meet schedule stopped our JV athletes as they competed at Lassiter for 6.5 hours. 

The girls team was crowned JV County Champions with a dominating score of 122 points! 

The boys team did a great job as well, finishing in 8th place overall.

GEORGIA TECH INVITATIONAL: 3/15-3/16

What a great weekend to host Georgia's premier high school track meet! The caliber of competitors was outstanding! To get an idea of the quality of athletes that were at Georgia Tech on Friday and Saturday, producing 56 National Elite Results, read Coach Monk's article.

Thanks to all the Pope coaches, parents, and athletes who put on a successful event that saw over 1000 athletes competing! Happy to finally be competing in the warm sun, Pope did well today in a field that included some of the strongest eight teams in the area. 

Pope Girls finished 2nd overall, consistently placing in the top four spots of most events. Highlights for the girls included:

PANTHER RELAYS RESULTS

After 32 teams from Georgia and Alabama battled in the snow for nearly 10 hours on March 2, Pope Girls took 3rd place overall, and Pope Boys took 4th overall!

Athena Carpenter, who was named MVP of the meet, led the way for the girls with her 2nd place finish in the 100m hurdles, 2nd place in the triple jump, 3rd place in the 300m hurdles, 4th place in the 4x400 relay, and participation in the 4x100 relay.
